DESCRIPTION
This series of works employs 738 groups of cross-sectional photographs of tree branches. Each group was subjectively color-adjusted and recomposed, forming a photographic installation of 738 cellular structures. Depending on the chosen printing medium and exhibition space, the project presents itself in three different modes. The term “Xian Wei” (显微) in Chinese carries a dual meaning: the “manifest” and the “hidden.” These two connotations are both oppositional and paradoxical. Through the processing and transmutation of the branch cross-sections, the artist constructs a microscopic cellular world. In doing so, he achieves a transformation and reconciliation between the manifest and the hidden, while re-examining the subtle and elusive relationship between the tangible reality we inhabit daily and the infinitesimal parallel dimensions that surround it.
